A 24-year-old Akron woman was cited for failure to control after a one-car crash around 11:45 p.m. March 9. According to the report, the woman was traveling south on state Route 8 in the left lane when she lost control of her car between Graham Road and Second Street and drove it to the right across all lanes.

Two woman involved in a fight in Akron March 6 gave new meaning to the term "finger food." Tallmadge resident Dawn Snyder, 27, was arrested March 10 for allegedly biting off the tip of an Akron woman's finger during a fight at an Akron bar on Kenmore Boulevard March 6. She was charged with aggravated assault (a fourth-degree felony), disorderly conduct (a fourth-degree misdemeanor) and disorderly conduct by intoxication (a minor misdemeanor), according to Akron Lt. Rick Edwards.

The Irish won the Akron Catholic Youth Organization seventh-grade title and went on to beat St. Anthony's in the tournament championship. With opening day just over three weeks away, the Cleveland Indians sent down three players to minor league camps Saturday including Lonnie Chisenhall. Wes Hodges and Jason Donald were optioned to Class AAA Columbus (Ohio), while Chisenhall was reassigned to minor league camp. He's expected to start this season where he left off last season, at third base for Class AA Akron.

The Senate president didn't join Ted Strickland and others in celebrating the news. L egislation introduced in the Statehouse last week would unnecessarily expand (once again) the rights of those with permits to carry concealed weapons. Sen. Shannon Jones, a Springboro Republican, and co-sponsor Tim Schaffer, a Lancaster Republican, want to erase restrictions on carrying concealed weapons in bars, restaurants that serve alcohol and grocery stores that sell alcohol. Jones argues the state's concealed-carry law should be simplified, although businesses could still act on their own to ban

The best team in Stark County now will attempt to become the best Division I team in Ohio. Jackson (23-2), behind Division I recruits Josh Egner and Mark Henniger, edged Toledo St. John's Jesuit 52-50 Saturday night in the Akron regional final before a crowd of 3,120 at Rhodes Arena.
